The City of Greater Bendigo’s Bendigo Animal Relief Centre (BARC) is offering discounted dog desexing opportunities for residents with a concession card.
BARC has partnered with the National Desexing Network (NDN) to implement the program which will work on a referral system which will come directly from BARC.
BARC Operational Manager Fra Atyeo said the discounted cost of the desexing will be a very affordable $75 per dog, regardless of their age, breed, or sex through the program.
“This is a great opportunity for eligible residents to save considerably on the cost of desexing their dog,” Ms Atyeo said.
“However, availability is limited and access to the program will be triaged so residents with a concession card wanting to take advantage of this offer will need to contact BARC as soon as possible to apply.
“BARC is currently experiencing an increase in the number of puppies being surrendered at the centre and while we will offer the service as a priority to dog owners who surrender puppies to break the cycle, we also welcome enquiries from other residents.
“More than 120 puppies were presented to BARC for rehoming over the last 12 months. This is an increase of 100% compared to the previous 12-month period. Most of the litters presented to BARC have occurred unintentionally, which could have been avoided if the owners had their dog desexed.
“There are many health and financial benefits to having your dog desexed.
“Desexed pets live longer and healthier lives, are less prone to wander, fight and be anti-social. In addition, the cost to register your dog each year is much lower if it is desexed providing further savings for pet owners.”
Eligible residents who are interested in this offer should contact BARC as soon as possible by email.
