Get involved in the Heathcote Urban Design Framework project

Media release

The City of Greater Bendigo is seeking public feedback on the Heathcote Urban Design Framework project which aims to create a vibrant township centre for a growing population.

An Urban Design Framework is a set of guidelines that helps to create well-designed urban environments.

It considers elements such as how tall buildings should be, where green areas should be located, and how streets should be designed to make it easy for people to move around.

The focus is also on improving public spaces, supporting local businesses, preserving heritage and cultural sites, and considering Heathcote’s unique values.

Manager Strategic Planning Anthony Petherbridge said this public engagement was the next step in preparing the Urban Design Framework for Heathcote.

“This is an opportunity for Heathcote to plan for a well-designed, vibrant, safe and attractive town centre,” Mr Petherbridge said.

“The goal is to create attractive, functional, and liveable places for people to live, work, and enjoy in the future.

“The City wants your help in developing the Heathcote Urban Design Framework. Tell us what you think the town centre needs by visiting our Let’s Talk Greater Bendigo online platform.

“You are invited to complete a brief survey, and you can add your comments or suggestions to the map on what you think could improve the centre.

“The City is also holding information sessions during the public consultation period, so you are welcome to have a chat in person with our City staff.

“Your contribution will help to guide the development of the Urban Design Framework and address future needs for Heathcote.”

Examples of things that could be included in an Urban Design Framework:

  • Parks, green spaces, street trees and landscaping
  • Footpaths and pedestrian access
  • Cycle lanes and bike parking
