Process to sell or acquire land
The City continually reviews the acquisition and sale of land to provide community facilities and services, to prepare for the future growth of the City, to meet requirements for open space and more.
The City's process to sell or acquire land is governed by the Local Government Act. When considering the purchase or sale of land the council will:
- Assess the site to make sure the transaction is made for the right reasons and achieves the desired outcomes for all parties
- Report and deliberate on the proposed transaction
- Consult β a public notice may be published to allow for objection submissions to be made
If we decide to proceed a contract of sale is drawn up and the settlement process followed.

Proposal to sell one property
Greater Bendigo City Council proposes to sell 27 Pohlman Street, Heathcote. This land was originally part of a larger parcel 26 Herriot Street, Heathcote, which was subdivided.
26 Herriot Street was sold to the Community Safety Building Authority (CSBA) for an Emergency Services Facility, with 27 Pohlman Street, Heathcote being vacant land not required by the CSBA.
The proposed sale of this land follows a Council resolution in August 2023, to βAuthorise City of Greater Bendigo Officers to dispose of any surplus land at 26 Herriot Street, Heathcote, not required by the CSBA, in accordance with the obligations under S114 of the Local Government Act 2020.β
The City is calling for any feedback or submissions on the proposed sale of 27 Pohlman Street, Heathcote.
