The City has recently commenced a large heritage studies program to fill the heritage protection gaps across the municipality, and update studies, some of which are more than 25 years old.
The heritage program is made up of numerous components, from a high-level Heritage Strategy to undertaking heritage studies for geographically specific areas such as Golden Square.
To provide guidance and clear direction for the heritage program, a Heritage Gap Analysis was completed in May 2019. The Heritage Gap Analysis outlines findings and recommendations for how to best approach and manage the work required to complete the post-contact heritage studies for the City. More specifically, the Heritage Gap Analysis identified numerous gaps in current protection afforded to the post-contact heritage in the City, as well as a need to update existing heritage studies, particularly older heritage studies that took place prior to the Council amalgamation that formed the City of Greater Bendigo.
