Community messages
Thank you for your service to Bendigo over the years, you’ll be sadly missed. Condolences to the family.
Vale. A kind and caring gentleman who understood the importance of community and was a true philanthropist. Your contributions and efforts appreciated more than words can express. I will miss our discussions about archaeology and local history. Rest well my friend, you will be missed !
Rod was a fantastic councilor and Bendigo Ambassador.
He was always quick to say a very warm "Hello Lovely Lady".
As a Councilor, Rod advocated strongly around our local footpath in Golden Square - visiting the site with relevant Council staff and listening to concerns and suggestions. It was a very positive example of good local engagement which I speak of often. This is just one small example of how Rod was genuinely connected into his community in so many ways .
He will be sadly missed.
My deepest condolences to his family.
Sincere condolences to the Fyffe family at this very sad time. Rod's legacy will live on through the Bendigo community and he will always be remembered as a man that made time for everyone. Rest in Peace Rod.
To the Fyffe family, my thoughts are with you. I've known Rod a long time, ever since he came to my primary school for a book week event when I was in Year 2. After that, I worked with him as a Youth Councillor in the City, and every time, his humour, empathy and wit were self-evident; he had a way of making everyone sit a little easier and speak a little louder. Since 2022 he and I sat on the same Arts committee at the City - seeing someone I knew and admired as a local legend be so passionate about the work he was doing, in the flesh, was a great experience that never really got old no matter how many meetings we went to. I only ever knew him through volunteering and as a Councillor - I can only imagine that to know him as a friend or as family would have been just as impactful. Regardless, we'll remember and miss him all the same.
It is with a Heavy Heart that I write this condolence message for you Rod!
It was only a couple of years ago that we were comparing ages and you were far too young to leave us as you had so much more to contribute to the People of The Greater City of Bendigo!
Sadness to your Family!
I am very sorry for the loss of Rod he was very caring towards me and I am grateful that I got to know him

Rod, I first encountered you as a teacher in my school days and count myself so lucky to be able to reconnect with you when I started working in Governance at the City years later. Your passion for your community, your dedication to your City role and your beautiful way of bringing a smile to those around you will be remembered always. I will miss your visits to the office, your jokes and your happy presence. Rest peacefully Rod. x
remembering a lovely gentleman who always took the time to say hello, even at the supermarket. Thinking of the family at this time, from Deb and Tom
Rod, thank you for all your support over the years. Your kindness and generosity will never be forgotten. Your legacy will live on.
My condolences to all of the family. Rod was a neighbour (across the road), and a supportive Councillor to me and all the work of the City over all of my 7 years. It wont be the same without him. Thank you for letting us (the City) have so much of Rod's life over the journey.
Myself & the Jumpleads nfp Team were very saddened to hear the news about the passing of Cr Rod Fyffe OAM.
Rod was a Trustee of our not for profit & has been a huge supporter of our work over many years. In the early days he personally & generously donated to our Pop Up Art & Make a Change projects & he backed our community work in Bendigo. He was always willing to catch up for a coffee & provide advice on projects, funding, influential people we should meet as well as providing a supportive listening ear as I discussed with him the challenges of working in arts & community development.
I personally had the pleasure of meeting Rod through my role as President Bendigo Sustainability Group many many years ago now. We then shared a Board role together with the Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance. When I was Chair there for 3 years Rod remained a strong support & guide the entire time.
Rod was a Councillor of City of Greater Bendigo for 38 years. His passion & contribution to community, the environment & the arts is too big to put into words.
Rod was an incredible human being & it meant so much to us to have his backing over the years.
Rod will be dearly missed by us & many many others. We send our deepest condolences to his family during this very sad time.
Oh how sad to not see Rods smiling face around Golden Square ever again. When we first arrived in Bendigo Rod was someone who welcomed us and someone we continued to see around town from then until now. He will be sadly missed but always remembered.
Rod’s contribution was enormous in our community, personally I will miss his cheeky smile and wave on any given day we spotted each other! He had a way of making everyone feel so important and could be relied upon to turn up special events and opened so many exhibitions for us, thanked everyone - so many lessons for us all - always the teacher! Sending love to Rods family as they celebrate the life of our local legend x vale Rod - Rachel Mason & family
On behalf of Lockwood SOUTH Primary School staff, students, and families I would like to pass our deepest condolences to the family and friends of this amazing man. Rod was so generous with his time for everyone around Bendigo, but we will remember him for the time and support he gave to our school. The many school council meetings, and special events he attended for our school it will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace Rod and thank you!
Rod, What can I say, I can't believe your gone, your tireless efforts to our young people and the city of Greater Bendigo will never be forgotten, you are an icon, you will be missed dear friend.
Met Rod in 1971 when he was appointed as secondary school teacher @ Mansfield High School; was my Pure & Applied Maths teacher for years 11 & 12. Travelled on school bus from Bonnie Doon with Rod who caught the bus @ the cnr of glen creek & dry creek roads. In 1979 met up with rod again @ BSSC working for the Education Department in Bendigo and this association continued although irregular to this day. Always had time to say hello wherever you might meet.
Your passing came as a shock; your contributions to society especially Bendigo Region will not be forgotten...rest in peace mate.
We will be forever grateful for the contribution you made to our wonderful city Rod. A true community champion and a great person. Will miss our catchups and seeing you around Bendigo and Marong. All my deepest sympathies to your family - we’ve all lost a good one 💔
Always appreciated Rods commitment to the Sister Cities concept. A man who made a significant contribution to public life.
Bendigo residents are much richer because of Rods tireless efforts. RIP.
Rod will be sadly missed by all who knew Him.. A Kind and Caring Man...A pillar of strength in the Bendigo Community...One of a Kind.
Rod Fyffe, the best math teacher ever! He always used to call/address me as scholar, which I appreciated very much.
I offer my condolences at this very sad time, and express my gratitude for a wonderful member of our community. Rest easy Fyffe xoxo
Heartfelt condolences to the Fyffe family. I always enjoyed chatting to him at art events. His gentle encouragement was appreciated as was his ceaseless support of the arts in Bendigo.
It is with deep sorrow that the RPCV Trust Members and staff acknowledge the passing of Rod Fyffe OAM. Rod was a long-term Trust Member with Bendigo Cemeteries Trust / RPCV and Acting Chairman for a period of time. Rod was a great advocate for people in the Bendigo community and someone who selflessly gave his time and expertise to help others. Rod has left a great legacy and will be missed by our community. We extend our sincere condolences to Rod's family at this difficult time.
Vale Cr Rod Fyffe OAM.
Dearest Victoria love to you and your family. Think of Rod having a ball in heaven.
Lots of love Susan
Rod was one of the first people I had coffee with in Bendigo touring with Orchestra Victoria in 2007, then most years afterwards. His support as Mayor/Councillor is one of the only reasons we travelled here… and a big factor in why I applied for my current job as Manager of Bendigo Venues & Events. Thank you for your visionary and creative leadership Rod, you were one of a kind and our arts community wouldn’t be what it is without your influence. Thank you for a life well lived xo
One of the rare truly good men - sadly gone - but Rod this is just au-revoir.
