Community messages

Rod kindly came to Dudley House a couple years ago and opened a climate art exhibition I curated. Rod showed interest in what we were trying to achieve through the exhibition and he gave us warm encouragement. I remember Rod as a person who smiled a lot and we will remember him as a happy man. RIP Rod.

The Marong Football Netball Club are saddened to learn of the passing of long standing Bendigo councillor and former mayor, Rod Fyffe.

Rod will be remembered for his incredible community service and spirit and as a proud member and supporter of the Mighty Panthers. Whether it be cheering from the sidelines or selling tickets for our meat tray raffles, Rod will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

Our heart felt condolences to Rod's family.

Cr. Rod Fyffe
Your outstanding contribution to the community will forever be remembered and your teaching abilities for past students, you were a famous personality as Bendigo mayor well known and outgoing in the community our condolences to wife Victoria and sons he will be sorely missed.

Rod Fyffe was a man of integrity and honesty who loved human interaction. Citizenship ceremonies really brought him joy and to witness his interaction as he welcomed our newest Aussies was always a delight. Rod was funny, clever and a favourite of so many. He will be forever remembered.

Thank you for your warmth and genuine care for the community. A legend to deal with professionally and personally you were awesome and super helpful - one of a kind. Hope wherever you are, you are smiling as you find out how the community is honouring you.

Rip Rodney

Thank you Fyffy for always keeping it real. RIP mate

So many memories of Rod while he walked beside and worked with my mother Pat Lyon to Save the Capital Theatre. It was really huge at the time because so many other councillors wanted the Capital building to become a Casino!!! So much story here in truth. I have strong memories of the journey taken by those who absolutely believed in the arts and the potential of View Street as the Arts Precinct. We really must thank these arty pioneers who held the dream so strong. Many thanks Rod for being an easy to talk to rep of Council and for your dedication to what you truly believed in. Keep vibing from the other side because your spirit is much needed .

My sincere condolences to Rods family at this sad time. Rod was my Maths teacher at Bendigo Senior in 1992-1993. From then i came across Rod over the years with my involvement at maiden Gully having owning a hair salon there and being involved with community things. He also knew my dad and anytime we crossed paths he was so warm and welcoming and friendly. He was such a down to earth wonderful man and he will be very missed. Sending all my love at this sad time. RIP Rod.xx

Thank you for your dedicated service to the entire Bendigo region.
Our community will not be the same without you.

You made a great mayor and were a friend to everyone on the street as you passed by sadly missed

Thank you for recognising, that I tried in year 11 maths at BSSC. I was hopeless with it, but you saw me and knew I was given it my best.
Then years later while you were Mayor, you were chatting with alot of people all in suits down the Mall. You stopped called me by my name and asked me how I was doing.
You made me feel seen.
You will be sorely missed Rod.Your love for Bendigo was genuine.

Rod was the nicest gentleman any could ever know.
At my powerlifting compitions in Bendigo he always waited to say hello and gave a chat with me before he left .
Your work is over Rod there may be a school in heaven you can help teach the kids xxxx

RIP Rod - thanks for all the lovely chats & friendship over the years. It was a pleasure teaching with you & we will sadly miss another staunch North Melbourne supporter xx

Cr Rod Fyffe, OAM will forever be remembered as a someone dedicated to serving his beloved city of Bendigo. And he served us well. Thank you, Councillor. You will be forever remembered as The Mayor with the Hair. RIP Rod.

Sincere condolences to Rod's wife, Victoria, their sons Paul and Frank, and grandchildren Sophie, Lachy and Rowan.

As an apprentice gardener in Rosalind Park during the late 80’s Rod would always say hello as he walked from the High School to the Council Chambers. A wonderful man who loved Bendigo and its residents. I think a fitting memory would be a statue of him cross the park. RIP a Bendigo Icon. Condolences to his family and community.

Rod was one of the most amazing teachers I ever had. He was kind, considerate, and never made his students feel stupid. My most sincere condolences on the loss of a true gentleman.

Rod,
I met you first as my maths teacher. Then later again when you attended Lions Clubs events representing the council. Furthermore,
you continued to maintain contact with me in my career always there as a positive sounding board, ensuring care for others outside of yourself.
Your commitment is felt throughout our entire community, always shinning a light ensuring to never leave anyone in the dark!
Bendigo landscape appears a little more dim without your vibrant light.
Thank you for your endless contributions to everyone and anyone that crossed your path.
Your precious footprint will remain with us always.

Condolences to family of Rod Fyffe, always friendly and came to a lot of groups I was part of, he did so much for Bendigo, the place he loved, RIP Rod, you will very sadly missed

My deepest condolences to you. Cr Rod Fyffe will be sorely missed and touched the heart of everyone he came in contact with. Cr Rod Fyffe was the first Mayor and in fact the first person who said hello to me when I arrived in Bendigo 24 years ago. At the time I had no idea he was the Mayor but was struck by how friendly he was in comparison to Melbournians. Thank you for sharing him with us.

If there ever was a “Mr Bendigo” sorely Cr Rod Fyffe OAM was it. I have never met a more friendly and generous person with his time for people and all things Bendigo.
His commitment to Education, students, the arts, sport and everything else was incredible along with his love for family and of course Local Govt. Was lucky to interview Rod on my Pointy End programme at least 6 times and every time was most entertaining. R.I.P Rod my friend ❤️🙏🥲

Dear Mr Fyffe, Rod, as you would say.. it was always a pleasure to stop and chat with you, wether in the streets of Bendigo or at a function for the youth. You had a heart of pure gold, you were always smiling, kind, caring, compassionate, softly spoken and 100% supportive. Everyone that knew you, has been lucky enough to experience your demeanour.. we have now lost a legend, so has Bendigo.
Love and condolences to your Family, may you rest in peace 💐

Im so so sorry for your loss I give my condolences and may he R.I.P

I remember Rod being a substitute teacher for maths in year 11, we weren’t getting what he was teaching so he ordered us some pizza to get us motivated. It definitely worked, it’s definitely a core memory of my schooling in Bendigo.
